How to Properly Measure Your Seated Thigh Height

  1. This measurement requires the use of a stool or other device with a flat surface.
    1. The height of this seat must be entered under Shop Data on the Setup form before using this method.
    2. An inexpensive kitchen stool with a height of about 600 millimeters will work well.
    3. Fitting Seat Height (height of the stool) can be measured using carpenters square, placing the short side of the square on the top of the seat and the long side of the square against the wall. Place a mark on the wall under the bottom of the square and measure the distance to the floor.
  2. Place the Fitting Seat or stool to the left of the masking tape with the seat angled about 45 degrees from the wall.
  3. Have the subject sit on the seat with the wall to the left and thighs angled about 45 degrees from the wall.
  4. Place the short end of the carpenters square in contact with the top of the thigh with the long side extending up the wall the wall.
    1. This measurement should be taken as far up the thigh as possible without contacting the hip bone or abdomen.
    2. You may have to reposition the subject or square to get the proper location.
    3. Neither the butt nor the thigh muscles should be flexed. Let the foot hang down so that the thigh slopes down towards the knee. This will make placement of the lower caliper bar easier.
  5. Place a mark on the masking tape under the bottom of the square.
  6. Mark this point “TH”
