How to Properly Measure Your Arm Length
Note: For Arm Length and Forearm Length, You will need a short (about a foot long) piece of broom handle. The broom handle should have a slot cut about half its length to accommodate the blade of a tape measure.
- Have the subject grip the non-slotted end of the dowel in their hand with the bottom of the slot just above your hand and the slot parallel with your outstretched arm.
- Have the subject stand with their arm outstretched to their side.
- Lower the arm to about a 45 degree angle and move your hand slightly forward of the body.
- Place the case of the tape measure over the fingers with the end of the tape passing through the slot.
- Extend the end of the tape till it reaches the small depression in the shoulder joint.
- Read the measurement on the side of the dowel closest to the shoulder.
- Record this measurement.
